Liability exposure change is driven or quantified according to more than just good science and sound legal reasoning. The liability ecosystem is much more complex than that. The relationship between individual indemnity and insurer exposure is conditioned by:

  • civil rights
  • climate change
  • economics
  • demographics
  • sociology
  • campaign issues
  • “green policies”
  • access to justice
  • resource constraints
  • globalisation
  • resilience
  • fashion

In particular correlation between losses is a major concern. Predicting correlation and preventing it is a new concept for many in Government. Insurers already have risk management options for dealing with it, but as resilience becomes more stretched new correlations will emerge.
